Holiday Lights and Festive Sights - December 5th Schedule of Activities

There will be some highly enjoyable Holiday Lights and Festive Sights set on Johnson Drive in Mission, Friday evening, Dec. 5th, when the city celebrates the beginning of the holiday season. Set on Johnson Drive, between Woodson and Beverly, Holiday Lights and Festive Sights is a the family-friendly event beginning at 5:30 p.m. and includes the lighting of the  Christmas Tree at 6:15 pm, Santa and Mrs. Santa arriving at 6:30 pm, the Shawnee Mission North Choir performing at 6:30 pm, the Dino O’Dell Interactive Children’s Show at 7:00 pm. Mission Business Development Committee Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

On the 4th Tuesday evening of each month, a diverse group of dedicated citizens meet at the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center to plan and produce three unique community events each year to showcase Mission, Kansas. Operating as the Mission Business Development Committee (MBDC), their prime objective is to assist in the revitalization of the Mission, Kansas business district. (Read the press release ...)

Santa Claus will be arriving in Mission, Kansas to the delight of anxiously awaiting children as a part of the annual “Holiday Lights and Festive Sights” event. Scheduled for Friday evening, December 5th, and set on Johnson Drive, between Woodson and Beverly, Holiday Lights and Festive Sights is a family-friendly event beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Mission’s “Battle of the Brisket Barbecue Contest” Announces Winners

Mission, Kansas was smoking Friday evening Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept.  20, 2008 when fifty-seven teams vied for top prizes and bragging rights in the 2008 “Battle of the Brisket State Championship Bar-B-Que Contest.” The Grand Champion prize, given for the highest combined score in the four meat categories, went to the Dodge County Smokers (Neal Dunker, Mission and Chris Nickelson, Leavenworth). Booth applications now available for Mission Arts & Eats Festival

Barbecue teams sought for the “Battle of the Brisket” state championship

Applications are now available on line for the “AT&T Battle of the Brisket” State Championship Barbecue Contest, scheduled September 19, and September 20, 2008, in Mission, Kansas, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairman, Mission Business Development Committee. Bike Safety Rodeo Registration Form Available for May 10 Event Held
During Spirit of Mission Days

Registration forms are now available for all students in the Northeast Johnson County area who would like to take part in the “Headstrong for Jake Bike Safety Rodeo,” scheduled for Saturday, May 10, 2008, 10:30 am-1:00 pm, at the Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center, 6299 Martway St, in Mission, according to Suzi Gibbs, Chairperson of the Mission Business Development Committee. The bike safety rodeo is a new event at the 2008 “Spirit of Mission Days” which will have family-focused activities and entertainment both Friday evening, May 9, and Saturday, May 10, 2008.

Spirit of Mission Days seeks floats for May 10 community parade

The Mission Business Development Committee is seeking floats for their “Spirit of Mission Days” parade, scheduled for Saturday morning, May 10, 2008. Organizations, families, youth groups, schools, and bands are encouraged to participate in the community-focused parade. There is no charge to have a float, and awards will be presented to outstanding entries. (Read the press release ...)

Mission, Kansas will be offering a unique variety arts, music, BBQing, and activities at their 2007 “Arts & Eats Festival” and the “Battle of the Brisket State Championship Bar-B-Que Contest,” according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairman of the Mission Business Development Committee. Spirit of Mission Days To Feature Family-Focused Events (May 1, 2007)

There’s a new lookat the "2007 Spirit of Mission Days" festival, on Saturday, May 12, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chairman of the Mission Business Development Committee. The old cow parade has been replaced with a community-focused parade that will include members from the Abdallah Shrine Temple, high school bands, floats, a color guard, and a beauty queen. “Holiday Lights and Festive Sights” will launch the holiday season in Mission on Saturday evening, Nov. 18, according to Suzie Gibbs, Chair of the Mission Business Development Council. Activities will begin at 5:00 pm at the intersection of Johnson Drive and Woodson. The family-friendly event is sponsored by Keystone Chrysler Suzuki and Mission Springs/Ashford Place.
