MBDC Grant Program

The Mission Business Development Committee grant program helps business owners within the City of Mission by providing a partial re-imbursement for the cost exterior improvements to their businesses. MBDC, with the support of City of Mission staff, is responsible for administering the grant program.

The grant program is available to owners of business property located within commercial or mixed-use zoning in the City of Mission, Kansas. It provides a 50% re-imbursement, up to $10,000, to business owners for eligible costs.

The grant program had it's beginnings in June, 2001 when the Mission City Council voted to set aside a portion of sales tax revenues generated from the new Target store. These funds were to be used "...for the purpose of assisting the City of Mission Commercial District." In August, 2003, the City Council established the Mission Business Development Committee, and charged them with the responsibility of developing and administering an investment and revitalization program for the business district. Initial funding for the program was set at $450,000.

The Mission Business Development Committee began accepting applications for grants the following year, 2004. Since the inception, the grant program has re-imbursed Mission business owners over $175,000 for in excess of $430,000 of total improvements.
