Spirit of Mission Days 2008

The grounds of the Sylvester Powell, Jr. Community Center at 6200 Martway in Mission provided the backdrop for the 2008 Spirit of Mission Days.

As in past years, the 2008 festival was a day filled with music, food and family fun, featuring a carnival, parade, bike rodeo for the kids, and bands for entertainment.

The Annual Spirit of Mission Days began on Friday evening, May 9th, with a special presentation by the musicians of Shawnee Mission North High School. Five different groups from Shawnee Mission North entertained from 5:00 pm until 10:00:

    • Shawnee Mission North Jazz band - sponsored by Casey Brothers Sinclair
    • Emo-Blues band, Serotonin - sponsored by All Weather Window and Door
    • Hungry Critter - sponsored by The Mission Bank
    • The Broken Light Bulbs - sponsored by Credit Union of Johnson County
    • Two Sum Three - sponsored by Kansas City Power & Light

Saturday's events included an early-morning pancake breakfast provided by the Shawnee Mission Rotary Club. The Abdallah Shriner's Parade began at 10:00 on Johnson Drive, and the carnival entertained visitors of all ages from noon until well into the night.
